Preliminary Results Show 76 Seats for Hamas and 43 for Fatah

(New York Times) The radical Islamic faction Hamas won a majority of seats in Palestinian parliamentary elections, according to preliminary official results released today. The Palestinian prime minister, Ahmed Qurei, and his government submitted their resignations earlier in the day when it was becoming apparent that Hamas had scored a major upset and defeated the ruling Fatah party.
