Jewish Organizations Line Up to Oppose Alito

Jewish organizations from across the country are announcing their opposition to Judge Alito following Senate Hearings. Based on Judge Alito’s past decisions and statements at his confirmation hearings, Jewish groups have expressed reservations about Judge Alito’s commitment to civil rights, the seperation of church and state, women’s rights, and the right to privacy.

During the hearings, Judge Alito reiterated sentiments that Roe v. Wade is not established law and that graduation prayer is acceptable so long as a majority of students support it. These statements are not only the mark of an activist judge looking to legislate from the bench, but represent a departure from the principles of minority rights that have formed the basis for over two centuries of American Democracy.

Jewish Social Policy Action Network

Religious Action Center for Reform Judaism

National Council of Jewish Women

National Jewish Democratic Council
