(NY Times) Israel’s cabinet agreed today to let a limited number of Palestinians vote in East Jerusalem in Palestinian parliamentary elections on Jan. 25, but the cabinet barred all campaigning in the city by the Islamic faction Hamas.

(Seattle Post-Intelligencer) Iran announced plans Sunday for a conference to examine evidence for the Holocaust, a new step in hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s campaign against Israel – one that was likely to deepen Tehran’s international isolation.Ahmadinejad already called the Nazis’ World War II slaughter of European Jews a “myth” and said the Jewish state should be wiped off the map or moved to Germany or the United States.


Can Florida law be used to bar education vouchers in Utah?

(Salt Lake Tribune) Florida law, like Florida orange juice, is being touted by some as the elixir for what ails society – in this case the perennial effort to pass voucher legislation in Utah.

The Salt Lake Tribune recently reported that passage of a school voucher bill in Utah had been gaining steam, but momentum that once existed apparently hit a snag in early January when the Florida Supreme Court invalidated vouchers under the Florida Constitution’s “uniformity clause.”


Jewish settlers riot in West Bank

(ABC Online, Australia) More than 150 Jewish settlers have rioted in the West Bank city of Hebron, wounding an Israeli soldier and torching a Palestinian house.

The riots came amid rising tensions ahead of an Israeli order to evict eight settler families from Palestinian-owned buildings in a market in the heart of the city.
