JCPA Praises Ford, Rockefeller, and Cummings Foundations For Withdrawing support From AAUP Conference

(JCPA) The Jewish Council for Public Affairs today praised the Rockefeller, Ford and Cummings Foundations for withdrawing their support from and urging organizers to delay an American Association of University Professors (AAUP) conference.

The foundations, which donated funds and meeting space to conference organizers, have questioned the ability for open, honest and constructive dialogue after pre-conference materials included an anti-Semitic article.

(ADL) The extreme reaction to the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed in the European press has led to death threats, rioting and targeting of Danish and other European embassies and institutions throughout the Muslim world.

At the same time, some Muslim and Arab newspapers and Web sites have ratcheted up their publication of cartoons with virulently anti-Semitic and anti-Israel themes

(Forward) Watching President Bush deliver his annual State of the Union address to Congress and the nation this week, it was hard not to notice the subdued, almost chastened tone of his delivery. Gone were the trademark winks and expansive body language that have characterized his public appearances for years. He was, like his message, restrained, at times almost downbeat.

Andrea Bronfman killed in accident

Andrea Bronfman, the wife of well-known philanthropist Charles Bronfman and a committed philanthropist in her own right, died in New York on Monday. Bronfman reportedly succumbed to injuries she sustained when a car skidded off the road and struck her while she was enjoying a morning walk. She was 60.

Iran announces conference on Holocaust

(Seattle Post-Intelligencer) Iran announced plans Sunday for a conference to examine evidence for the Holocaust, a new step in hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s campaign against Israel – one that was likely to deepen Tehran’s international isolation.Ahmadinejad already called the Nazis’ World War II slaughter of European Jews a “myth” and said the Jewish state should be wiped off the map or moved to Germany or the United States.
